My Craft Space

Okay... I am finally ready to share pics of the improved craft room. First though... I must share what the room looked like before.... don't judge me! :)

BEFORE:

I don't remember why I had that curtain up like that... it wasn't always like that but hey... lets be honest... even hanging down... it didn't help the looks of the room. Ha!

Easy to see why I was feeling very uninspired when I sat at that desk!

As you can see... it was the catch all space!! Now...

AFTER:

There is a reason that I wanted a certain look for my blog... because I wanted the same look for my room! :) We added paneling (which I want in my whole house)... new floors (they are vinyl... we thought we bought laminate until we opened the box... oops... but it was cheap and looks good)

We put new molding down... just 1x4s... on the top too which we didn't have before. I ordered a new chair from Ikea... one that didn't hide the whole desk and went better with the room (also a cheap purchase compared to others out there).

We took the cheap looking marble window seal out and cased out the window. I don't do well with curtains... I just don't like them. We had faux blinds but I am not a huge fan of those either. We went with a cheaper shade and I actually love it. So easy to roll up and let the light shine in. One day I wouldn't mind having shutters but they are way expensive. When we finish redoing the rest of the house... maybe we will purchase them for all of the front windows... who knows. Until then... I really do like the shade! :)

I like the look of the shelf standards on the walls and it allows me to move the shelves as needed... without making more holes in the walls. Crafters need flexible shelves! You never know when your storage needs will change.

This is how I store my cardstock and important paperwork. The cat has been kicked out of this room so at some point we will replace that door! :) I am not sure right now what I will put on that wall... if anything. I like the white space! Oh... and the handy hubby mounted my lights on the wall so they don't take up floor space with their HUGE stands. :)

This corner is where my light box/tent was set to go. As we were working on the room and Michael came up with a way to mount my lights... I decided to make this Michaels corner. My craft room is downstairs and Michaels desk is in the bonus room. He has said for a long time that he wished we could be in the same room. Now he can come down and work on his laptop while I work at my desk. He has put in a request for a lamp so I am going to have to come up with a way to work that in at some point. Notice the blue doors!! I wanted to keep the room white and add color in ... in other ways. I decided to paint my closet doors.... and I LOVE THEM!

This is what those pretty blue doors hide! :) Michael put me several rows of shelves so I could hide the bulk of my supplies behind closed doors. I didn't take a picture of it before and I wish I did. It was just a single shelf that had our clothes hanging... with stuff jammed on the top of the shelf and on the bottom. Now our 'off season' clothes are folded and stored on the very top shelf. You can barely see them. LOL! This closet is a little more packed than I would like but some of what is in there will be used in the months to come so it will get cleaned out a little here and there.

Maybe my most favorite thing about my improved space!!

My orange desk is also a favorite!!

So... there you have it! :) I love my new space!! I am thankful to have a hubby and family/friends who could do the work and did it willingly to make it happen!

I love that I have room now to set up a table for a friend to come over and craft. We don't have to go to the kitchen table.

I can't wait to get started on the rest of the house! :) Believe me though... none of them look like my craft room did!! I promise I am not a hoarder! Just the opposite actually!! I have already been thinking about what we could do to the attic to finish it out and make it a very organized storage space... and I have it pretty organized already! I get rid of everything! Carver asks me a lot if I got rid of something if he can't find whatever that something is. Sometimes I did... sometimes he just can't find it. :)

It is funny to see how my style/taste has changed over the years. My house is colorful... it always has been. Now I want all of the rooms to be white. I still love color but I want to add it in... in different ways... not painted on the walls.

Thanks for stopping by to check out my new space and read my ramblings! :)

Peace and Love!

thanks for sharing your new room. I like your idea of adding colors in other ways, rather than paint on the walls. =)

Fantastic! I am looking and looking at ideas, especially with established crafters for good organization to decide on what to do for storage units in my small space!

This super-de-duper gorgeous with a maraschino cherry on top! I think my jaw dropped a little at the major change between before and after. My den/craft room is the only room (other than the bathrooms) that we haven't done anything with since we bought our house and I haven't been able to decide what to do with it. Nice job!
